Tamarind Chutney

you will need imlee “Tamarind” packet  (around 1lb)


Soak tamarind in water & remove seeds

Strain to just have juices


In a pot, warm & heat in:

  • 1/2 lb Gur (cane sugar) or soft dates if Gur is not available 
  • Cook until melted
  • 4-5 cloves of garlic (crushed finely)
  • 1 tsp chilli flakes or 1/2 red chilli powder
  • 1 tbsp cumin seeds
  • 1/4 tsp Salt to taste


Optional to add:

  • Instead of red chilli, 2-3 fresh green chilli Finely chopped
  • 2 tbs Fresh green coriander
