Naan/ Garlic Butter Naan
Prepare Dough
In a bowl, mix:
- 1/2 cup warm water
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 package dry active yeast
Let yeast mixture sit for 15 minutes to see if its activated. If OK, proceed by adding:
- 1/4 cup sour cream
- 2 cups all purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon ghee (or melted butter.. OR garlic butter)
Mix everything together and let it sit for 1-2 hours
Naan Preparation
Once doubled in size, cut dough in 6 portions.
Round each portion, dust with flour and let proof for another 15-30 minutes.
Roll out each dough ball into naan shapes.
Once rolled out, add a few coriander leaves on top & roll out to imbed into the naan.
Cooking:
Bake method:
- if baking, turn oven on hottest setting (mine goes to 500 degrees) and heat dry cast iron in the oven
- Once Cast iron is heated, add rolled out naan and cook a few minutes each side
Stovetop method:
- Heat a dry cast iron until its very hot
- Cook naan 2 to 3 minutes per side
Once each naan is cooked, remove and add garlic butter on top. Skip this step if you want regular naan
- Sometimes I use store bought garlic butter - melted & brushed onto the naan
For homemade Garlic Butter:
In a small pan, add:
- 1/4 cup butter
- 2 cloves finely minced garlic
Cook until butter is melted and garlic is heated through
